Common Running Injuries (Part 1) – Runner’s Knee

Runner’s knee is the common name for Patello Femoral Pain Syndrome (PFPS). It is the most common running injury, accounting for roughly 20 percent of all running injuries.

The main symptom is pain below the kneecap that is general mild at first and experienced only during running . The pain becomes progressively more intense during running. At the advance stage, the pain is also felt at rest if training continues.

Runner’s Knee is  really just a chronic failure of tissues within the knee to fully recovery from running-induced damage between runs. However, it can last just as long as more serious breakdowns and hence frustrating.

There are several ways in which this injury can be managed. Change of shoes, Rest are common ways.

Kinesiology Taping has also emerged as a new method of managing Runner’s Knee. The process involves sticking a specially designed tapes on the knees that allows for greater blood circulation around the inured areas as well as provide additional stability to the muscle.
