All you need to Know about HIKING in India!!

For all those who are new to hiking

Fact: Hiking is actually just walking, only on dirt or rocks or other uneven surfaces. Or walking where animals larger than you can kill and eat you.. ūüėČ

How to Get Started

Going for a hike can be as simple as heading out to a local forest or park and following marked trails or as challenging as a rigorous trek through unchartered territory. It is best to plan where you want to hike and for how long. Then, assess these three factors:

  1. Am I physically fit enough to undertake this hike?
  2. Am I knowledgeable and experienced for this walk?
  3. Am I mentally prepared for this?

Benefits of a Good Hiking Rhythm

Having a steady Hiking Rhythm will enable you to stick to a fixed schedule of breaks instead of having to break every time you run out of breath and start panting. Furthermore, knowing your own Hiking Rhythm and speed will help you plan your hikes.

Having a steady Hiking Rhythm will lessen the strain you put on your feet, legs, lungs, and overall body. Changing gear the whole time is much more tiring than staying at a constant intensity level. Moreover, having a steady Hiking Rhythm will leave you less tired at the end of the day compared to having variations in your walking intensity.

Having a steady Hiking Rhythm is generally more enjoyable as you never over exert yourself and generally keep the physical strain at enjoyable levels.

Uneven surfaces like uphill and downhill slopes can make it difficult to maintain your rhythm. You could attempt to keep the same rhythm and adjust your stride. Often this will prove very difficult and you will have to change the tempo of your rhythm. This is not bad as long as you are able to keep at the new rhythm and adapt to it quickly while remaining at the same physical intensity level.

Dress appropriately for the hike

Hiking involves walking. A lot of walking. Make sure that you are wearing hiking boots that are very comfortable for walking and sturdy to walk in different objects like grass, rocks, roots, and dirt. Don’t wear any shoes that you can’t get dirty because you are likely to get all kinds of stuff on your shoes and clothes. Wear clothing meant for hiking that will protect you from stray branches and thorns without suffocating you in case of hot weather. If the hiking trail will be exposed to sun, bring sunglasses and/or a visor to maintain solid vision.

Hiking Shoes

The most important first thing to have for a successful venture into hiking is a suitable pair of hiking shoes or boots. Visit Sports365 for more information about proper shoes and what to look for as you shop for them.

Hiking Safety

When you set out, establishing a hiking rhythm and speed and taking breaks are extremely important for your health and to avoid any safety issues. Carrying appropriate hiking accessories will help !

Where to Hike

Here are some of the many places to hike in India: Kurisumala Peak Hiking, Wayanad, Savandurga Day Trek, Bangalore, MariBetta, Mullayanagiri and Bababudangiri, Chikmagalur, Vajra Waterfall, Belgaum,  Chembra Peak, Wayanad, Phanaswadi and Shimbola Waterfall, Belgaum

Know the terrain of your trail.

There are many different types of hiking trails that have various difficulty levels and lengths. Learn about your trail before you go hiking so that you can gain a perspective on what the path will look like in terms of hills, shade, rocks, and other factors. If you are not accustomed to hiking regularly you might want to start on a hiking path that has fewer hills and is a little more relaxed so that you can enjoy your walk while getting an appropriate workout relative to your progress.

Bring light gear and supplies.

It is important to bring a few essential items on the hike, depending on the amount of time that you plan on being out. You want to make sure that you pack light since you will have to carry the gear and supplies the whole way. Bring water for hydration, and a few snacks to keep your energy levels up and your stomach full. If you have space, bring a simple first aid kit with band-aids, gauze, Neosporin, and anything else you can reasonably fit. Most outdoor organizations recommend bringing the Ten Essentials when heading into the outdoors.

Exposure to bugs and the sun.

Since many hiking trails can be several miles long, you will have prolonged exposure to the sun and to bugs in the forest or mountains where you are hiking. Bring sunscreen to avoid sunburn and help prevent skin cancer. There will be many different types of bugs like mosquitoes, bees, flies, and all other kinds of insects. If you will have legs or arms exposed, spray down with bug spray to prevent bites.

Some other facts about hiking:

Unlike other XTREME sports like rock climbing and heli-skiing, you don’t need hundreds or thousands of rupees’ worth of gadgets and shiny things to hike. If you have shoes, a Snickers bar, and a bottle of water, you can go hiking. Also, if you only have shoes and no Snickers bar or bottle of water, you can still go hiking.

If you do want to spend a bunch of money on hiking gadgets, you can totally do that too.

Bears basically spend their entire lives hiking, and bears are rad.

Most popular hikes are on trails. You do not necessarily need a trail to go hiking. If you don‚Äôt have a trail, you are ‚Äúbushwhacking,‚ÄĚ which is a lot like hiking, but slower and less fun.

Hikes range in distance from under 100 feet to thousands of miles. If you have never been hiking before, you should start at the lower end of the scale.

If you are interested in fun, or nature, or exercise, or breathtaking views, or all four, there’s a good chance you might like hiking. Give it a try today!

Swimming-The Best Way to keep Fit!

Summers are upon us and soon the city will turn into a concreted cauldron. You want to get your workout; but do not want to get trapped in a rut of sweating it out with heavy machinery, inside the confines of a gym.

So how does one get a wholesome workout in natural surroundings while beating this excruciating heat?

Swimming is your answer!swimming-is-medicine

This is the one exercise that does basically everything, from cardio to strength training to breath work, not to mention it’s another excuse to take that refreshing dip in the pool.Let us dive deeper (couldn‚Äôt resist using that) into why swimming is such an awesome form of exercise.

Less effort, more work

Swimming offers something no other aerobic exercise does: the ability to work your body without harsh impact to your skeletal system. When the human body is submerged in water, it automatically becomes lighter (buoyancy be blessed).

When immersed to the waist, your body bears just 50 percent of its weight; dunk yourself to the chest and that number reduces to around 25 to 35 percent; with water all the way to the neck, you only have to bear 10 percent of your own weight. The other 90 percent is handled by the pool.

This means that the pool provides an ideal place to work stiff muscles¬†and sore joints, especially if you’re overweight or suffer from arthritis.

In its recommendation for the right types of exercise for people with arthritis, the Arthritis Foundation suggests those that stretch muscles, those that strengthen muscles, and those that provide an aerobic workout. A few laps in the pool combine all three!

Muscle tone

In order to tone muscle, you have to work against resistance. When you are swimming, the water provides the resistance your muscles have to fight against as they kick and stroke to propel your body across the pool. In fact, water provides more resistance than air or friction, so your muscles have to work harder to move you through water than they do to move you through air or across land.

Doing each stroke properly not only lengthens and stretches the muscles used, but the repeated movement to stay moving through the water helps you develop muscle endurance as well. The result is more toned muscles throughout your body.

Healthier Heart

¬†Since swimming is an aerobic exercise, it can improve cardiovascular fitness as well as cholesterol levels, provided you swim at a brisk pace. Research also shows that aerobic exercise can combat the body’s inflammatory response as well — a key link in the chain that can lead to heart disease

American Heart Association reports that just 30 minutes of exercise per day, such as swimming, can reduce coronary heart disease in women by 30 to 40 percent.

Live Longer

Researchers at the University of South Carolina followed 40,547 men, aged 20 to 90, for 32 years and discovered that those who swam had a 50 percent lower death rate than runners, walkers or men who got no exercise. The study authors concluded that the same benefits would be received by aqua-women as well as men.

Yuvraj Singh ‚Äď A True Warrior

Yuvraj Singh is a sort of destiny’s child. A 14 year of cricketing career has a mix of lofty highs as well as seen the despairing depths.

But, there are very few sportspersons in India, and for that matter in the world, who are blessed with such unconditional love from the fans. Right from his under 19 days, he was marked out as a special talent. He did justice to this early reputation with a fantastic debut knock against the mighty Aussies. And, from that day onwards, Yuvi never looked back. And, the fans have never missed showering their affection on him.

yuv1 yuv2 yuv3

The scintillating performance in World Cup 2011, where he was adjudicated as the Man of the Tournament, was a pinnacle (362 runs and 15 wickets) of his sporting career. And every sportsperson would love to live in this phase for as long as possible. But, destiny had other plans. He had to stay away from the game – the thing he loved the most in his life, to beat a rare form of cancer. The cricket fraternity was in shock and fans could not hold back tears.yuv4

But, Yuvi had other plans. He fought the illness like a warrior. While most would’ve written off his cricketing career, he made a roaring comeback. When he came to bat in that T20 game against New Zealand in Chennai, the fans bowed to him and not one eye in the stadium was without tears. Yuvi, despite being a shade of what he was before the illness, entertained the fans with a 34 off 26 balls.

Everyone would have loved to see him regain the form quickly but the mentally & physically draining illness had taken a toll on him. The modern day cricket has become more strenuous. The form dipped and he was not considered for the squads in Champions Trophy and the World Cup.

After going through what he had, most people would have given up but Yuvi still was looking to make a comeback. Injuries to a few players prior to the World cup opened up a ray of hope for him; and more so for his fans. In hindsight, all experts opined that if Yuvi had played the Worldcup, India would have been stronger team than what it was. In the background, however, Yuvi kept working on his fitness and form. He had an outstanding Ranji season which was marked with 3 back to back hundreds.

And, Yuvi is still far from being done. With the kind of form and fitness he is in, it is only a matter of time before he is back in the national team. IPL 2015 presents a great opportunity to Yuvi to show the world (& the men who matters in India) that he still is a match winner.

To his fans, Yuvi is already a Champion and each one of them is eagerly waiting to cheer every stroke from him bat. For them, the color of the jersey he dones in IPL, is just a matter of minor details. The only jersey that they really want to see on Yuvi is the Team India Blue Jersey. And, those days are not so far.

All the best Yuvi. No matter what happens, you are and will always remain a true warrior and a champion in our heart.

Time for some Madness after Method!

IPL Madness

The cricket world has not yet fully out of the ICC World Cup hangover. While teams like India, South Africa, New Zealand & their home fans would still be ruing about the missed opportunities, the Aussies would be amidst the extended revelry of the victory.

The show, as they say, must go on. The cricket fans all over the world would now be blessed with 8 weeks of IPL cricket. While the ICC World Cup was all about strategy, planning & process. The IPL, like its previous editions, would be all about adrenaline, entertainment & innovation. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that cricket fans are up for the madness of the IPL after the method of the World Cup.

This year’s IPL would feature 8 teams. The players who were fiercely competition against each other in the World Cup would find themselves wearing the same jersey and working together to win for their franchise. Sample this РRohit Sharma, Aaron Finch & Corey Anderson would be playing to win for Mumbai Indians, David Miller & Glen Maxwell would team up for King XI Punjab, MS Dhoni, Brendon McCullum & Faf du Plessis would don the yellows of Chennai Super Kings. It is amazing how quickly players quickly adapt to the change in playing conditions and teams.

Madness, it will be, but it will still have a great dosage of cricket. The players would still pour out their energy and give the best for their franchise. For every scoop, reverse sweep & switch hit, there would be matching straight drive, square cut and a leg glance. For every slow bouncer & wrong one, there would an outswinger & yorker.

Tell us how excited are  you about this IPL. Tell us who are the teams you are supporting & players you would be rooting for?

We will add a bit of spice to this year by launching our very own range of fan t-shirts on the IPL theme. This exciting range of fan t-shirts are designed by the people who absolutely love cricket. Watch out for this space as more details about this awesome range will follow soon.
