Atlético is much more than a Great Defence

Bayern Munich lost their last match almost five months back against Atlético Madrid at Vicente Calderon. This week they were beaten again by Atlético.  The two games out of 26 that Bayern has lost have been against Atlético.

Atlético has been defeated in two matches in 19 Champions League group games. They have lost only one time at home in this competition under Simeone. They have a record of 13 clean sheets out of their last 14 games. Out of the 269 games with this coach, 143 matches have finished without them conceding and the number is 23 out of 38 in Europe.  The list of European goal at Calderon shows their excellence as defender.

They are known as the good defenders. But that’s not all about Atlético. Although, they were fortunate enough to have reached the finals last year but Bayern did not leave the scope to batter them. The Germans had 33 shots which are considered as the most Atlético has ever endured before.

It did not impress everyone though and there is a thought which provokes the failure against Real Madrid in Milan. The accusation has been pointed on them more than any other defending team seeking for break. There has been quite a lot of cynicism against the team that can be seen with the way people talk about Atlético.

Atlético are defensive but their coach had once called them a horrible team. That was around 18 months ago and now things are changing to a different dimension. The team has been putting a lot of effort to come out as unbeaten and overcome their flaws.

Carlo Anselotti is the only manager who has knocked Atlético out of Europe in the last three years after the Wednesday’s match and also the manager who had defeated them in finals in Lisbon in the year 2014. He was asked the difference between the recent Atlético and the one he had seen when he was the manager of Real Madrid.

Anselotti stated that there’s not much difference in the team except their ability to attack and get behind their defences. The reply seemed slightly dismissive as there have been more obvious changes in the team. The seriousness, the intensity with which they play the game, their statistics and all those clean sheets have come to a standard form and the team has been evolving with time.

Atlético is trying to not lose the solidity they have attained to become successful and it is an evolution for them since last season. It seems that Simeone is ready for a significant shift, symbolised by the position of Koke in centre.

Simeone said that he has been moving towards this since two years and this is not a new idea. He seems ready to leave Koke centrally and he also thinks that Koke is ready as well which could be of great impact. He said Griezmann is among the three best players even after the penalty that was missed by him.

He considers himself fortunate to coach these players because of their enthusiasm, passion and their dedication towards the game.

Barcelona and Real Madrid suspend European Super League Talks

Barcelona and Real Madrid have recently confirmed with the La Liga officials about their withdrawal from any involvement with a breakaway European Super League for the time being. The teams have decided to stay dedicated and focused towards their participation in Spain’s domestic division for the near future.

La Liga clubs held a private meet in Manchester over the past two days to discuss the details of building a more united approach domestically and also internationally. The intension of the meet is to achieve a growing financial strength of the Premier League.

La Liga’s director general of marketing, Adolfo Bara said that Barcelona and Real Madrid have given an amnesty in concern with the European Super League. He also mentioned about their future plans and global strategy. Both the teams have a stronger united approach and alignment for the growth of La Liga.

Bara came up with a series of presentations for the clubs in Manchester. They also visited the Etihad stadium of the Manchester City. The clubs were briefed about the benefits of a better collective approach for issues such as the sale of television rights and also the circulation of income.

The main motive of La Liga to call the clubs to Manchester was to organise a meet with the senior officials. The officers from different offices of different parts of the world were in the city for the Soccerex Global Convention. It was a great opportunity for the clubs to get acquainted with the beneficiary ideas of the officials.

There was a debate earlier this year on a European Super League which was followed by various news reports stating that some of the England’s leading sides held a meet to discuss their idea. According to the reports, Susana Monje, Barcelona’s financial Vice-president backed the idea soon after the meeting was held.

Two of the leading club’s of Spain have been the leading voices on the European Super League controversies since the first event of disapproval around 20 years ago.

Bara mentioned that the amnesty does not mean that the European Super League controversy is resolved. He also said that La Liga will maintain a careful relationship with two of the most powerful clubs in the world. The official pardon is a step towards settlement but not a complete resolvement of the issue.

He also stated that they share a love-hate relationship with Barcelona and Real Madrid. The motive is to maintain a strong hold of their national league to achieve a place in the Premier league with financial support. To convince both the clubs was definitely a tough task but they have decided to provide support as of now.

Bara said that among the two clubs Madrid is the more difficult one to deal with in the European Super League. Even though the team is committed to La Liga, they believe that they can achieve a lot more on their own which makes it a difficult task to convince the club to stick together.

The idea of a breakaway European Super League has been strongly opposed by La Liga and other members of European Professional Football Leagues. They believe that it would develop a negative impact on all national leagues across the continent.

Pogba to Outshine as a free role United Player

The World’s most expensive player outnumbered everyone with his stunning goal in the match against Leicester City. If his performance in the latest match is anything to go by, then expect more from the coveted midfielder in the upcoming weeks.

Quinton Fortune, former United Player believes that Pogba has the ability to become an all-time United great if he is given the chance to flourish in a free role.

Pogba played an advanced role during the 4-1 match against Leicester City last weekend which gave him the scope to prosper as an individual player. According to Fortune, if he is allowed the freedom to express himself the key to success will be an easy achievement for Pogba.

The 23-year old opened his account for the United after scoring the fourth goal in the match against Leicester city in the absence of Wayne Rooney. Fortune said that this was the beginning for him and there’s a lot more to come if the team let’s him play his role as an attacking player without shouldering much defensive responsibilities and allow him to show his natural abilities.

Pogba is a strong player who can both defend and attack. According to Quinton he should be allowed to play the game without the tactical stuff and the complications. He should play like a free kid to show his skills to the world.

Pogba was accompanied by Andrea Pirlo, Claudio Marchisio, Sami Khedira and Arturo Vidal in midfield at Juventas. Quinton advised Pogba to shine as a successful player once he gains complete understanding with his fellow United Players.

When he was a successful Juve player, he was surrounded by Pirlo and Vidal where he could express himself. After Pirlo left, Pogba was assigned more responsibilities. He had a confidence and mutual understanding with his team-mates. Manchester United is a new team for him which already had its own style of playing since years. Pogba entered with his own style and Mourinho is trying to employ his style now.

Questions were raised against United’s decision to sanction a deal of 110 million to re-sign their former youth player. According to Fortune, it was a correct decision for the team irrespective of the price tag. Pogba is young, and at the age of 23 he can be the midfield general of Manchester United, for years to come. He can be United’s heir to the vacated Paul Scholes midfield role.

Pogba had a quiet start to his second spell at United. But from what we witnessed in the game against Leicester City was that he can be the main man driving United forward this season.

Pogba was trying too hard during his initial days to come out as an outstanding performer but his definite abilities could be seen with his recent performances. He is rising as a player of the United. The expectations have reached a new level now and there’s a lot more to come from Pogba as a new generation player.

He has successfully pushed down the tough moments and has started to prove himself in the new environment.

Manchester United End Their Defeating Streak

Marcus Rashford, Ander Herrera and Mitchael Carrick made the scoresheet tick when the men of the Jose Mourinho ended their recent struggle of winning a game in the EFL Cup. The fans of the Manchester United were able to get back to their winning ways because of the recent 3-1 victory over Northampton Town during the EFL Cup On Wednesday.

The match was fantastic and nail-biting as the Red Devils came to the game with the weight of always losing matches. But they broke their three-game losing streaks with winning this match and Michael Carrick played a significant part. He took them to the perfect start through the excellent strike that he did in the first half.

Now this was followed by the penalty shot of Alex Revell during the stroke of the half-time and just before the game was getting a tie, Ander Herrera was able to put United back to the advantage position. Later on, Marcus Rashford was able to provide the Mourniho’s men an easy two-goal cushion as he was able to make use of the sloppy show of the goalkeeping by Adam Smith.

A Nail-Biting Match And Finish

With the loss of 3-1 to Watford, Mourinho took up nine changes to his beginning line-up. Timonthy Fosu-Mensah, Sergio Romero were able to get their first states while playing with Mourinho. And this was the first appearance of Micheal Carrick since the win of Community Shield against the Leicester City.

During the last trip made by Red Devils to Northampton, they had the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Paul Scholes which helped them to cruise to the 3-0 victory at the FA Cup. But this time, visitors had a tough task and were made to work a bit harder, since they needed to progress to the fourth round of EFL Cup.

It was nice to see Micheal Carrick to place United in front using his lovely curling effort. This helped in getting past just the quarter-hour when the Alex Revell was able to equalize the given spot when Daley Blind created the penalty. No doubt, the Red Devils showed their superiority when Marcus Rashford and Ander Herrera were able to score the second half goals to put an end to the losing run of United and ease the pressure present on Mourinho.

The domination done by United over its opponents was great to see. Right from the starting of the match, the team looked filled with confidence and was able to forget their recent disastrous run of results.

Even Michael Carrick was able to dictate the terms in the play by following the deep-lying role and continually fend Depay on the correct flank. It was great to see the Dutchman teed the awesome player Wayne Rooney early on of the game. However, it was shocking to see that the striker just messed up his efforts, which was a delight to the jeering fans of Northampton.

Hope Manchester continuous with this winning streak and gain momentum in future tournaments along with delighting their fans.

Messi Injury Caused Barcelona To Tie With Atletico Madrid

Great scenes and tactics were displayed in the match between Atletico Madrid and Barcelona. The initial strategy fired by Ivan Rakitic for the Catalans put them on the lead. However, it was shocking to know that they got pegged back because of the Argentine substitute, just before losing the most substantial number ten spot, right at the second half.

Critics felt that Barcelona didn’t have Lionel Messi and it was because of his injury that triggered the match being drawn. But Atletico Madrid did a great job to tie the game at 1-1 at Camp Nou on Wednesday. It was well aware to the champions that a win can help them to reach within the points of the leading team Real Madrid as they had drawn a match with Villarreal. However, things didn’t go in the way Barcelona wanted as the first half header of Rakitic was just cancelled because of Angel Correa in the second period.

Even more damaging was done to Barca which is the loss of Messi. The constant recurrence of the groin issue Messi had made it impossible for him to take part in the match. Furthermore, even Sergio Busquets had to withdraw from the game, just an hour before the match started. Being unbeaten in the last 12 league matches, the Luis Enrique’s side showed how they can take control of Atletico. And they did much of it in the first half.

But they found it tough to get the clear-cut chances, right before Rakitic was able to head to the cross of Andres Iniesta from the short corner. A strong start was made by Atleti during the second period and was able just to snatch the given equalizer.

This was possible because of the substitutes Correa and Fernando Torres who combined within the minute of coming on. All this happened when Messi really failed with to get shake off the major discomfort that he got after his match with Deigo Godin.

Good Show By Atleti

Among the last four meetings, three were won by Atleti and that too during the season 2-1 as they were able to push harder to win. However, things didn’t go as it seemed because Diego Simeone’s side was able to keep them at bay, due to the relative ease involved in the closing stages. This helped in making sure that they were a point behind in the table and just four adrift to Madrid.

The early possession of Barca helped in getting some few necessary opportunities. And as Messi was curled to Oblak’s arm right from the 20 yards off the sight of the goal, it was up to Atleti to easily get the better of the opening present to them in the first-half. And they did it with ease.

Furthermore, Yannick Carrasco was able to put Ter Stegen right at full stretch by curling the given drive to the left of the penalty area just before Luis blasted right over the crossbar. This was 20 yards away from the Barca and after it was unsuccessful to clear the lines.

Naturally, it was disappointing for the home crowd even though Barca tried their best to gain a win.
